Previous Courses and Descriptions

What’s in a Song? An Exploration of Musical Theatre and its Composers

Dive head first into the world of music theatre composers. Not only will you learn about the main experiences and influences that led William Finn to write Falsettos, but you will also study the main attributes of his style and unique writing abilities. From Michael R. Jackson to Jeanine Tesori, we will be focusing on an array of different composers, styles, eras, genres, and walks of life. The one thing that brings all of these composers together is the love for telling stories through music, and in this course, we will listen and learn from their stories.

Understanding Music Theory

Have you ever wanted to learn about music theory? Did you study theory years ago and would love to brush up? This is the class for you! Over the course of 8 weeks, we will learn the history of music theory, western notation, the grand staff and the musical alphabet, keys and the relationship between pitches, rhythm and song analysis. This will be an interactive class, with opportunities to share your work and loads of fun along the way. The class will culminate in a Music Share session where you can invite friends and family to see the projects that you’ve worked on.
