Wanna Volunteer?
The work we do at AfterWork Theater absolutely cannot be done without the generous donation of time that our volunteers give to us throughout the year. There are so many ways to get involved with our community. Here are just a few!
Ushers
With 66 performances every year, with many of them selling out, ushering at a show is a phenomenal way to help out. Additionally, many of our patrons require some extra help getting to their seats, so a friendly face and empathetic ear is a lovely way to make all of our audience members feel welcomed.
Backstage Help
Do you have a little more time to help out during our performance runs? Helping out backstage for the duration of a run means the cast has a consistent and comforting presence to help them through their nervousness. If you’ve been in an AWT show before, you can think of someone who’s helped you backstage. This is a great way to pay it forward to another cast! Some backstage opportunities where a larger commitment is required include helping with the following:
• body microphones
• costume changes
• spotlight operation
• general backstage crew
Launch Day Assistance
If you’ve been to a Launch Day at AfterWork Theater, you know just how many moving parts there are to the schedule, and how Herculean it seems the creative team is in accomplishing their goals and casting the show! As impressive as our teams are, it can’t be done without some extra hands helping out. It’s also just a great way to participate in the most special day of the program, if you don’t have time to actually be IN the show. We often need one or two people to assist with the following tasks on Launch Days:
• Taking photos
• Recording singing/dancing for the team to refer back to later
• Learning the choreography and assisting with the dance calls
• Moving chairs, tables, mirrors and other equipment
• Checking people in
• Generally being on hand as a runner
Newbie Outreach
Are you a returning participant who recalls how overwhelming it was at your first Launch Day? Be a friendly voice and face for people’s very first introduction to AWT! This requires reaching out to your assigned newbie(s) and being a person they can say they know at Launch Day!
Load-in
Once it’s time to move to the theater, we often need more hands on deck to help transport and/or set up set pieces, props, materials, sound equipment, and anything else we need for the show on Load-in day!
AWT Events
Community is everything to AWT, and we plan multiple events throughout the year, both big and small. Sometimes they are fundraisers, and sometimes they are just a fun time! What makes it more fun is to plan it with a friendly group of people. Volunteer opportunities are available for planning committees as well as on the ground help on the day of.
Other special projects
Maybe you have a special talent that we don’t even know we need. If you think you have the skills and the time to add value to our community and our programs, we’d love to hear about it!
