Previous Courses and Descriptions

Ensemble Class

Learn the art of being in an ensemble! Each week, Alejandro will work with you on an iconic musical theatre ensemble number, complete with harmonies, and then put it on its feet. You’ll also learn how to develop your character and have it carry through to your performance. At AWT we embrace strong character choices when there is little on the page to dictate the direction you take. Here’s your chance to really hone that craft and have a blast while doing it! The class will culminate in a showcase for friends and family in the last class.

Choir Class

This choir class is a space for vocalists to do what they love most…SING. In this class, we will explore the art of singing together in unison and in harmony while learning a mix of pop, musical theatre, and jazz repertoire. Each week, participants will learn a new song, work on their vocal technique in our warmups, and learn about different types of ensemble singing across genres and cultures. Participants will also have the opportunity to sing solos during our rehearsals and final performance! This class is great for vocalists of all levels who want to embrace their inner choir kid or are interested in exploring ensemble singing in a fun nonjudgemental setting.

The class will culminate in a final performance where the choir will be accompanied by a pianist. A small number of tickets will be available for an in person audience, and virtual tickets will also be available.

Vocal Performance Workshop (Jazz)

This class is great for vocalists looking to become more familiar with jazz or musical lovers who want to gain more knowledge about the vocal jazz idiom and have a richer listening experience.

Explore Jazz history, Jazz music theory, swing and bossa nova styles, learn the foundations of vocal improvisation (scatting), learn tunes from the great American songbook, and most importantly learn how to make a song your own.

During these 8 weeks, in class participants will have the opportunity to workshop solo repertoire with the instructor, learn how to lead a band, and sing (and improvise) as a group. The class will culminate in a final performance where participants perform a song of their choice in a trio (voice, bass, piano). There is also an entirely virtual option!
