Young Frankenstein – The Mel Brooks Musical

Mel Brooks’ madcap comedy collides with Mary Shelley’s classic monster tale in Young Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein, the mad scientist of legend, has died and left everything to his grandson, Frederick, who wants nothing to do with the family’s notorious legacy. To settle his inheritance, he travels to his grandfather’s castle in Transylvania, meeting the grandson of Victor’s loyal henchman, Igor; the beautiful lab assistant, Inga; and the mysterious Frau Blücher. Before long, Frederick is sucked into his grandfather’s experiments and succeeds in creating human life. But by the time they realize that the Monster’s been accidentally given an abnormal brain, the Monster has already escaped, seemingly set to terrorize the countryside like the Frankensteinian monsters before him.

Will Frederick repeat the mistakes of his grandfather? Or will he succeed where the others have not and turn his Monster into a dapper, intelligent man about town? Young Frankenstein is a hilarious take on the classic horror story, combining zany antics, a witty script, and high energy comedic performances for one unforgettable, hilarious adventure in Transylvania.

Young Frankenstein will have two casts with approximately 40 people per cast!

Attendance Policy

Prior to Launch Day, participants will have the opportunity to list rehearsal conflicts. We have a flexible attendance policy, but we do feel that if participants have to miss significantly more than 5 rehearsals it may be harder to catch up and may impact participant experience. Please keep this guideline in mind when deciding to register for this program! If participants do miss significantly more than 5 rehearsals, it will be up to the creative team to decide if that impacts their role assignment or which numbers they can safely perform on stage.

If you do have absences, resources will be made available so you can catch up on anything you miss outside of rehearsal time. Once rehearsals begin, it is up to the discretion of the creative team whether or not a participant’s role must be reassigned due to missed rehearsals.

We ask that you do your best to keep tech/performance dates free of conflicts though we realize that absences may change after a season starts. We don’t want to penalize people for schedule changes, but frequent absences and/or latenesses throughout the season may impact future registration and/or casting, especially if those absences/latenesses are not communicated to the stage manager.
COVID Safety

COVID safety protocols: Masks are always welcome! Depending on the number of people in the room and/or the size of the room, there may be some rehearsals where masks are required.

Performance policy: Dress rehearsals and performances will all be mask optional. We will no longer be requiring proof of a negative test to perform unmasked, but it is imperative that any performers who are feeling any symptoms stay home.

Audience members may still be asked to be masked during the performance.

If a venue we are using for rehearsals or performances has a stricter policy, we will defer to them. Our policy on safety protocols may shift over time as the situation changes.
