Setting the Scene: Intro to Directing
Step into the world of creative leadership with this hands-on, introductory class in directing for the stage! Designed for adults with a passion for performance, this class will guide you through the essential skills and techniques needed to bring a script to life. From analyzing text to building blocking skills to developing a director’s vision, you’ll learn how to shape a show and lead actors through a production process. Whether you’re aiming to direct your first show or simply want to explore the magic behind the scenes, this course offers a fun, supportive environment to develop your creative voice and discover the power of directing on stage. Recommended for folks who already have experience as actors or performers.
The final class will include a small showcase for family and friends.
Acting/Auditing Seats
We are offering a limited number of opportunities (up to 4 participants per week) for actors to join individual classes. With an acting/auditing seat, you will have the opportunity to act and receive direction from the participants in the class, in addition to being able to audit the instruction itself!

The below locations are our most frequently used rehearsal locations, though locations are subject to change and may vary throughout the program. We also sometimes use various Ripley-Grier locations. Most/all of the classes in this program will meet at the 14th St Y.

COVID safety protocols: Masks are always welcome! Depending on the number of people in the room and/or the size of the room, there may be some days where masks are required.
Refund Policy
AWT You(niversity) tuition is completely non-refundable for any reason whatsoever. Participants who withdraw more than two weeks prior to the beginning of their first class may receive a tuition credit (minus a $20 processing fee) that can be used toward a future Performance Program or AWT You Class no more than one calendar year from the start date of the initial program purchased. Participants who withdraw less than two weeks prior to the beginning of their first class are not eligible for a refund of any kind, will not be able to transfer tuition towards a future program, and are responsible for the full tuition amount regardless of how many monthly payments have incurred at the time of withdrawal.
